JIHAY KANG: A SINGLE JOURNEY Through June 11 |
|
Last week we opened Jihay Kang's first solo show with Raandesk Gallery, A Single Journey, to a group of eager fans. Jihay Kang uses iconic images associated with Western material culture to explore intersections of consumerism and authenticity. Brightly patterned and complexly layered works that explode with color reveal converging themes of happiness, joy and alienation. The exhibition includes works from Kang's earlier explorations through very recent paintings and mixed media works. Exhibition is on view through June 11 and additional works will also be on view at this year's Affordable Art Fair (see below). Snapshots from the opening reception

STUDIO VISITS WITH ARTISTS |
|
One way to explore an artist's work more fully is to visit the artist's studio. This is a great way to put the artist at ease who may be a little anxious in discussing his or her work. During a studio visit you will be open to discovering many things that you may not be exposed to if you just see the work in a gallery space, such as: - Exposure to a broader range of the artist's work
- Exposure to the artists source materials and influences (could be books or other images around the studio)
- A heightened comfort level with the artists that allows freer expression
- First hand glimpse at the materials the artist uses to create the work
Overall, your visit should be comfortable and informative. Galleries can assist with your visit to an artist's studio. Raandesk Gallery coordinates many visits for artists, so please let us know if there is an artist whose studio you'd like to visit.
